Sportable's Lil' Spokes program is for youth athletes ages 13 & under with little to no experience in wheelchair basketball. This is the beginner level team that works on FUNdamentals of the sport and more! We play at a 6 foot to 8 and a half foot hoop, dependent on skill level, and a smaller and lighter ball. As kids get older they will progress through the program and compete with different teams that are determined by age and skill level. There are prep, JV, Varsity and Adult level teams within the wheelchair basketball program. If you are not sure which team to register for please contact the program coordinator directly.

Participants must have permanent lower extremity impairment to participate including, but not limited to, amputee, cerebral palsy, spinal cord injury and spina bifida. Not all players use wheelchairs for everyday mobility! This sport is played in sports wheelchairs, and athletes must be able to maneuver their chairs independently.  Sportable owns sports wheelchairs that athletes who are new to the sport can use at practices to begin their development within the sport. If you have questions please contact the program manager directly.

The goals of the wheelchair basketball program are to promote teamwork, competition, sportsmanship and recreation. Our teams compete in the National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) which includes local, regional, and national competitions.  Some of our athletes have been awarded collegiate wheelchair basketball scholarships and have aspirations of reaching the highest level of competition (i.e. Paralympic Games). In order to compete with the Lil' Spokes  in NWBA competitions, there is a required membership fee that you must pay to be a registered NWBA player.
