Participants must have permanent lower extremity impairment to participate including, but not limited to, amputee, cerebral palsy, spinal cord injury and spina bifida. Not all players use wheelchairs for everyday mobility! This sport is played in sports wheelchairs, and athletes must be able to maneuver their chairs independently.  Sportable owns sports wheelchairs that athletes who are new to the sport can use at practices to begin their development within the sport. If you have questions please contact the program manager directly.

The goals of the wheelchair basketball program are to promote teamwork, competition, sportsmanship and recreation. Our teams compete in the National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) which includes local, regional, and national competitions.  Some of our athletes have been awarded collegiate wheelchair basketball scholarships and have aspirations of reaching the highest level of competition (i.e. Paralympic Games). In order to compete with the Rim Riders in NWBA competitions, there is a required membership fee that you must pay to be a registered NWBA player.
